JETEX Commits AED 5 Million Over Next 5 Years to Support ‘1 Billion Meals Endowment’ Campaign

JETEX, a prominent executive aviation company headquartered in Dubai, has committed to donating AED5 Million over the next five years to support the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” initiative. Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the campaign aims to create the largest Ramadan sustainable food aid endowment fund in order to provide a food safety net for underprivileged populations and combat hunger worldwide, particularly among vulnerable groups.

Adel Mardini, CEO of JETEX, highlighted that their contribution embodies the spirit of giving and solidarity that is deeply rooted in the UAE community. He emphasized the company’s dedication to social responsibility and supporting humanitarian efforts not only in the UAE but globally, promoting the values of tolerance and human solidarity.

The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign builds upon the achievements of previous food aid initiatives, such as the “10 Million Meals” campaign in Ramadan 2020, the “100 Million Meals” campaign in Ramadan 2021, and the “1 Billion Meals” campaign in Ramadan 2022. The campaign aims to rejuvenate the concept of endowments as a developmental tool and a crucial contributor to the global fight against hunger, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The campaign warmly welcomes donations and contributions to the endowment fund from both individuals and institutions via five primary channels: the campaign’s website, a dedicated call center, bank transfers, SMS donations, and the DubaiNow app.

The General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE has secured the bid to host the third edition of the ICAO Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels. The Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) unanimously accepted the UAE’s proposal during a recent meeting held at the ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada. The conference is held every seven years. Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GCAA, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, noted that the event coincides with the UAE’s preparation to host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). He emphasized that the UAE aims to facilitate the global transition to a green economy, achieve sustainability, economic diversification, and increase green growth. The UAE has declared 2023 as the year of sustainability, further enhancing its efforts to lead climate action in the aviation sector.

 Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, stated that the UAE has a proven track record in environmental action and regional and international cooperation to address climate change challenges, making it an ideal destination for the conference. The UAE is considered one of the pioneering countries in the field of sustainable fuels and low-carbon fuels, particularly in the aviation sector, he added.

Many of the popular shopping and leisure destinations will remain open beyond midnight during the holy month. Emirates and United expand Codeshare Partnership, offering more US destinations for Emirates customers.

Emirates and United have activated their codeshare partnership, expanding their market presence and enhancing their networks. As a result, Emirates customers can now fly to Chicago, Houston, or San Francisco and connect easily to over 150 US cities in the United carrier’s network via the three gateways. The partnership also unlocks popular destinations accessible from Emirates gateways, such as Atlanta, Austin, Denver, Minneapolis, and Phoenix. Additionally, customers of both airlines will soon be able to book connecting flights on a single ticket, making check-in and luggage transfer easier.

 Emirates Skywards and United Mileage Plus members will earn miles when travelling on flights operated by the other carrier, and eligible customers travelling on codeshare flights will also enjoy access to Emirates and United lounges. Emirates’ chief commercial officer, Adnan Kazim, expressed excitement about the partnership, saying it will help the company meet demand from various customer segments. Emirates has also recently deployed its signature A380 aircraft to Bali and refreshed its livery design.

Empower approves $116m dividend payout for shareholders in 2023

Empower, also known as Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation, has announced the approval of a total dividend of $116m (Dhs425m) for the second half of 2022, equivalent to Dhs0.043 per share. The payout, which represents 42.5% of its paid-up capital, will be distributed to shareholders in April 2023. Empower’s full-year net profit in 2022 increased by 7% YoY to Dhs1bn, with revenues reaching Dhs2.8bn, driven by a 13.3% increase in the demand for district cooling services. The company provides district cooling services to over 1,463 buildings, with a market share of more than 80%, including high-profile developments such as Atlantis The Royal Hotel, Museum of the Future, Marsa Al Arab, One Zabeel, and Wasl1.

 Empower’s IPO raised Dhs2.66bn in Dubai, with the offering drawing $34bn in orders from local, regional, international, and retail investors. The company plans to focus on expanding its district cooling infrastructure and transmission and distribution networks in Dubai, investing Dhs450m in February to cater to the needs of more than 43 buildings in Dubai Maritime City. Empower provides district cooling services to over 64% of residential buildings, 15% of commercial buildings, and 14% of the hospitality sector in Dubai.

Expo 2020 Dubai’s Legacy: $42.2bn GVA and One Million Job-Years Expected to Benefit UAE’s Economy, According to EY Study

According to a study by EY, Expo 2020 Dubai and its legacy are projected to contribute a gross value added (GVA) of $42.2bn (Dhs154.9bn) to the UAE’s economy from 2013 to 2042. The event attracted 24.1 million visits over six months, and is expected to support more than one million full-time job-years, equivalent to over 35,000 jobs annually during this period. EY identified events organization and business services, construction, and restaurants and hotels as the sectors expected to contribute the most to GVA. The pre-event phase contributed around one-quarter of GVA, while the event itself added almost 13%, and the legacy phase is projected to provide 62% of the economic benefits until 2042.

Expo City Dubai Authority CEO and UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, HE Reem Al Hashimy, said the event was intended to provide long-lasting economic, social, and environmental benefits for the UAE, the region, and the world. Expo City Dubai repurposes more than 80% of the infrastructure built for the event and has become an integral part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. Additionally, the Expo Valley and Expo Central communities are being developed, with two residential projects expected to be completed by January 2026. The legacy of Expo 2020 Dubai continues to attract global events, including the UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP28), to be hosted by Expo City Dubai in November 2023.

Dubizzle’s parent company, Emerging Markets Property Group (EMPG), is reportedly considering an initial public offering (IPO) in the United Arab Emirates. EMPG, which operates popular classifieds websites Dubizzle and Bayut, is said to have hired Rothschild & Co. to explore the potential listing in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Details of the IPO, such as its size and timing, remain tentative and subject to change.
