AD Ports Group Launches New Direct Shipping Service between Khalifa Port and Kuwait’s Shuwaikh Port to Boost Trade Connectivity.

AD Ports Group has introduced a new direct shipping service dedicated to Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) operations between Khalifa Port in the UAE and Shuwaikh Port in Kuwait, aimed at enhancing commercial connectivity and facilitating trade with Kuwait. The move comes as bilateral trade between the two GCC countries grows, with non-oil trade exchange estimated at Dhs43.5bn in 2022, compared to Dhs38.5bn in 2021, a growth of 13 per cent. The new shipping service is part of AD Ports Group’s effort to improve trade connectivity and facilitation in the region, building on its comprehensive business agreements and strategic partnerships with neighbouring countries. 

Captain Ammar Mubarak Al Shaiba, acting CEO of the Maritime Cluster and Safeen Group at AD Ports Group, stated that the launch of the new shipping service through Khalifa Port would meet customers’ needs and facilitate access to target markets with competitive rates and reduced time.

ERC Distributes Aid to Earthquake Victims in Syria’s Jableh and Latakia Governorates

Under the ongoing efforts of Operation “Gallant Knight / 2”, the Emirates Red Crescent’s (ERC) field team organized a humanitarian initiative to aid those affected by the earthquake in Jableh and Latakia. In coordination with its Syrian counterpart, the ERC distributed medical supplies, medicines, and nutritional supplements to homes for the elderly. Additionally, they provided electric wheelchairs to people of determination who lost their homes and families due to the earthquake in the Latakia Governorate. The Emirates News Agency (WAM) assisted the ERC field team by offering psychological and material support to quake-affected families in various regions of Syria.

The beneficiaries of this initiative expressed their gratitude towards the UAE and the ERC for their continuous efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people. Zain Al Abidin, a Syrian child who received an electric wheelchair, expressed his appreciation, stating that it was like having two new feet that allowed him to move faster and go wherever he wanted.

As part of Operation “Gallant Knight / 2”, the UAE remains committed to supporting the people of Syria by providing food and medical supplies and bridging the needs gap in the education and healthcare sectors.

Investopia partners with Business Finland to explore investment opportunities in Africa

Investopia, the global investment platform, announced its partnership with Business Finland, a government organization that promotes innovation funding and trade, travel, and investment. The partnership aims to explore investment opportunities in Africa and other regions. The Investopia 2023 conference held in Abu Dhabi saw significant participation from Finnish enterprises and organizations, culminating in a roundtable event attended by global business leaders.

Business Finland’s Executive Director and CFO, Timo Metsä-Tokila, highlighted the increasing need for sustainable solutions, creating new and rapidly growing market opportunities. He emphasized the importance of creating value in synergy between large and small innovative companies and research organizations. Victoria Ivanova, Senior Advisor of Business Finland, expressed her excitement to be part of Investopia, bringing together Finnish technologies and innovative projects from Africa to the global investment community.

The partnership also resulted in a roundtable event where Finnish transformative technologies and innovative solutions were discussed to boost African economies. Two unique African growth opportunities, Isiswe and the Prieska copper-zinc mining project, were highlighted. The mining project aims to create the first carbon-neutral mining operation using Finnish value-adding offerings and the latest technologies.

Additionally, IQM Quantum Computers, represented by its CEO and co-founder Jan Goetz, participated in a session on quantum computing and AI, discussing the role of quantum computing in various sectors.

Dubai is becoming an increasingly popular destination for creatives seeking to develop their business ideas. The city has launched a range of initiatives under the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy to provide an environment conducive to business growth for artists, designers, and performers. The Al Quoz Creative Zone is a key component of this initiative, providing a comprehensive industry ecosystem to support creative enterprises. By 2026, the plan is to double the number of creative companies in Dubai from 8,300 to 15,000 and increase creative jobs from 70,000 to 140,000, with the aim of raising the contribution of creative industries to Dubai’s GDP from 2.6% to 5%. 

The “Creatives’ Journey” is an online platform to accelerate business setup and simplify the establishment and operation of creative ventures in the city, catering to six main sectors and providing four types of licenses. Dubai Free Zones Council Discusses Dubai Economic Agenda and Sustainability Strategy

During a meeting of the Dubai Free Zones Council (DFZC) chaired by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Council discussed the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to make Dubai one of the top three global cities and double its economy’s size within a decade. The Council expressed its commitment to achieving the goals of D33 through various initiatives and discussed its plan of action in light of the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) to be hosted in Dubai Expo City. Additionally, the Council outlined packages that simplify services and improve the experience of foreign investors, and highlighted the importance of attracting Emirati talents to work in Dubai’s free zones.

The Council also discussed the outcomes of the Free Zones Energy Demand Management Strategy, which seeks to reduce the demand for electricity and energy consumption of free zone companies to achieve sustainability and support Dubai’s leading position as a builder of innovative and environmentally friendly communities. This strategy aligns with the UAE Net Zero strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and the Year of Sustainability, as well as preparations for hosting COP 28. The strategy aims to reduce energy and water demand by 30% by 2030 for free zones and companies, while providing added value to businesses. It outlines methods for introducing innovation, awareness technologies, and processes related to energy demand reduction and sustainability, as well as providing resources, tools, programs, and policies to reduce the carbon footprint of free zones in collaboration with relevant government agencies.

The Council also explored a proposal to standardize the title and classifications of services offered in Dubai’s free zones, following the methodology adopted by the Dubai Model. The Dubai Model offers packages that simplify services, enhance service channels, meet client needs and expectations, and increase satisfaction levels.

Lastly, the Council discussed the importance of attracting Emirati talent to work in free zone companies in Dubai, and reviewed initiatives and achievements made in the past period. It affirmed the need to continue coordinating with free zone authorities to encourage companies to employ UAE nationals and benefit from government capabilities and incentives, such as the Nafis program. The Council emphasized the importance of supporting these initiatives and maintaining collaboration with work teams and the Emirati Human Resources Development Council in Dubai to empower a new generation of Emirati talents in various sectors within Dubai Free Zones.

UAE Minister highlights nation’s water sustainability efforts at 2023 UN Water Conference

Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, emphasized the UAE’s inclusive and action-oriented approach to water sustainability and its impact on the nation’s security and economy-wide roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions during the 2023 United Nations Water Conference.

Almheiri, while delivering the UAE’s national statement at the conference, underlined the significance of responsible water management, especially for a country with limited freshwater resources and a growing population and economy. She quoted the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, the nation’s founder, saying, “water is not simply a commodity; it is our lifeblood.”

Additionally, Almheiri confirmed that the UAE would prioritize water security and sustainability on the global climate action agenda as it prepares to host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.

She represented the UAE at a ministerial-level meeting of the UN Security Council focusing on the provision of water and sanitation services to civilians during armed conflict. Almheiri urged the international community to increase support for the protection of water systems and humanitarian efforts, stressing the need for more effective action and a stronger response to these challenges.

Furthermore, Almheiri participated in two high-level events on the sidelines of the conference, including a meeting co-hosted by the UAE COP28 Presidency, Egypt, the Netherlands, Tajikistan, the Stockholm International Water Institute, and UN Water to identify priority actions to address the water and climate change nexus at COP28 and in the first Global Stocktake. She also took part in a high-level interactive dialogue hosted by Egypt and Japan to identify inclusive solutions, strategies, and resources to address the links between water, climate change, disaster risk reduction, biodiversity, and the environment.

Expo Centre Sharjah to Host the 40th Edition of the Highly-Anticipated Ramadan Nights 2023 Festival

Expo Centre Sharjah is gearing up to commence the 40th edition of the much-awaited commercial and marketing event, “Ramadan Nights 2023,” in Sharjah. The initiative, which is scheduled to take place during the holy month of Ramadan, seeks to provide food baskets to low-income families in the region. 

Shamsa Mohamed bin Nassif, Deputy Director of FAHR, confirmed the project’s objective and highlighted that it aligns with the existing partnership between the two organizations in the areas of volunteerism, humanitarianism, and charitable work.

Sharjah Police Commander Meets with Etisalat Delegation to Discuss Digital Technologies and Information Solutions

Major General Saif Al-Zari Al Shamsi, the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, recently hosted a delegation from Etisalat Services Holding (ESH) and its subsidiaries, led by CEO Muammar Al-Rukhimi. The purpose of the visit was to introduce Sharjah Police to the best practices and applications in the field of information and communication technology solutions, digital technologies, and enablers. It aimed to emphasize the importance of the communications and information technology industry in enhancing security work and achieving the Ministry of Interior’s strategic goals for 2023-2026.

During the meeting, Al Shamsi commended ESH’s leading position in the field of technological infrastructure services, highlighting their highly efficient and quality systems that improve performance and productivity while enhancing the quality of services provided. The meeting emphasized the importance of building communication bridges with various private sectors and institutions to exchange ideas and visions that support the government’s direction in enhancing the quality of life.

The visit ended with Major General Al Shamsi presenting a commemorative shield to the CEO of ESH, expressing his eagerness to strengthen communication between the two sides. Several high-ranking police officers also attended the meeting.
